The University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, invites applications for a post-doctoral position within the project MANAA (Matrix Algorithms in Noncommutative Associative Algebras) under the supervision of Ivan Slapničar. The position is supported by the Croatian Science Foundation.
Duration and starting time: up to 24 months (depending on a starting date) with preference on beginning in 2021.

Sallary (gross): 15.000 HRK (approx. 2000€).
Responsibilities: The candidate will work on problems related to project on Matrix Algorithms in Noncommutative Associative Algebras. The main focus will be on the following project objectives: design and analysis of methods for computing the eigenvalues and singular values of matrices of quaternions and block matrices, and pairs of such matrices; in particular, methods for structured matrices (arrowhead and diagonal-plus-rank-k matrices); design and analysis of methods for solving least squares problems and total least squares problems for matrices of quaternions and block matrices with application to ultrasonic tomography. He/she will be expected to work with other project team members, to have the ability to develop and apply new approaches and to implement them in appropriate software. Required competencies:
- finished PhD study within the field of mathematics;
- programming skills in Julia, Matlab and/or Python, with willingness to learn Julia;
- excellent knowledge in the area of numerical mathematics with emphasis on numerical linear algebra;
- at least one accepted or published paper in high quality journal (Mathematics SCIE or mathematics applied SCIE).
